Closets, vents and doors

Checked 2026-11-08 · Survival

Short answer

Closets hide, vents travel, doors delay. The description warns that barricades get kicked in, so a door buys seconds and a vent changes the room you are in. Neither one is a place to sit.

The official description lists four defensive options in a single bullet: "Hide in closets, crawl the vents, barricade doors (they kick them in)." Four clauses, one warning, and a parenthetical that changes how you should use all of them.

This page takes each option, states what the game confirms, and explains how it fails.

Option one: closets

Closets are the hiding option, and hiding is the only defensive move that does not spend a resource. Your light stays charged, your stamina stays full, and the door you are behind stays intact — because you are not behind a door.

What a closet does not do is let you watch. A player in a closet is blind, deaf to their own footsteps and unable to see the room they need to cross next. In a game where the objective is five objects spread across a building, every second in a closet is a second not spent finding a key.

The right use is short and specific: break line of sight, wait for the sound to move away, come out on the side the sound went away from. The wrong use is treating a closet as a place to solve the problem from.

There is no badge for hiding in a closet, which is itself information. The game rewards escaping without dying (Not A Scratch, 7,601), surviving an animatronic in your room (Tight Squeeze, 4,095) and pulling a friend out of a grab (Not On My Watch, 7,276). It does not reward waiting.

Option two: ceiling vents

Vents are the movement option, and the description's phrasing is exact: crawl the vents. Crawling, not running. The Infinite Stamina pass description confirms the cost — "running from them and crawling through the ceiling vents" — which means vent travel burns stamina by default.

That makes vents a trade: a route that bypasses the floor, paid for in the one resource that also gets you out of a corridor. A player who enters a vent with an empty stamina bar is committing to a slow crawl through a tube with one exit.

Two practical rules follow directly from the official text:

  1. Vents are a route, not a refuge. Nothing in the description says an animatronic cannot follow you into one. It says vents let you crawl, which is about your movement, not your safety.
  2. Vent entrances are chokepoints. A crawl space has one mouth. If something is in the room you left, you are entering the tube with it behind you.

Option three: barricaded doors

The description's warning is the most valuable sentence in the bullet: "(they kick them in)."

A barricade in Closing Shift is a delay, not a wall. That reframes the entire defensive layer. If doors get kicked in, then the correct moment to barricade is when you need three seconds to finish something — a key, a code read, a hatch climb — not when you want to stop being chased.

The failure mode is obvious once stated: players barricade, relax, and then the door comes in while they are standing behind it doing nothing. A barricade you are leaning on is a countdown you are ignoring.

Option four: the light and Foxy

The fourth defensive tool is not in the bullet list — it is its own line: "Keep your light on Foxy's face." That is the only named counter to a named character in the entire official description.

Stand Your Ground (8,745 awards, 1.0 percent) is the badge for holding the light on him until he retreats. One percent of players manage it, which makes it the hardest non-achievement mechanic in the game by award rate. Everything else on this page is about moving; this one is about not moving, and it is the one most people fail.

The fifth option: sound

"If you hear singing, don't leave the room." A rule, not a suggestion, and the badge attached to it — Don't Leave, 45,600 awards at 3.1 percent — is awarded for staying put through the birthday song and living.

Only 3.1 percent of players have it, against 53.5 percent who survived the party. So most players who heard the song left the room and still survived the party. That is not a contradiction; it means the song is a trap with a survivable alternative, and taking the alternative is what the badge records.

What the award counts say about survival

Not A Scratch, escaping with zero deaths, is 7,601 awards against 80,777 escapes. That is 9.4 percent of successful runs that were also deathless. So roughly nine in ten escapes involve dying at least once — and Infinite Lives, at 175 Robux, is the pass that turns those deaths into a minor inconvenience.

That is the practical summary of every option on this page. The building is survivable with bad tactics, because death is forgiving. It is the clean run that requires a plan.
