They can hear you
Voice chat is a mechanic here, not a chat feature. The description says animatronics listen and may release you if you say the right thing, and Silver Tongue has 90,070 awards for doing exactly that.

Most horror games give you a microphone so you can scream at your friends. Closing Shift gives you one because something is listening.
The description states it as a rule, in capitals: THEY CAN HEAR YOU — "talk on voice chat and the animatronics listen. Say the right thing and they may let you go." That is a mechanic, and the game has a badge to prove players use it.
What is actually confirmed
| Claim | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| The game listens to voice chat | Stated | Official description, bullet 2 |
| Saying the right thing may release you | Stated | Same bullet |
| Doing so awards a badge | Stated | Silver Tongue, "talk an animatronic into letting you go" |
| 90,070 players have done it | Measured | badges.roblox.com, 2026-11-08 |
| It works on every animatronic | Not stated | No official text |
| Specific phrases are required | Not stated | No official text |
The last two rows matter. The description says "they" and "an animatronic" — singular, unspecific. It never claims the same words work on Freddy as on Chica, and it never publishes a phrase list. Anyone offering you an exact script is working from their own runs.
The number that makes it a real mechanic
Silver Tongue sits at 90,070 awards, 11.1 percent of players. Compare that to Closing Time, the badge for actually escaping, at 80,777.
More people have talked their way out of an animatronic than have ridden the elevator out of the building. That is a striking ratio. Whatever the voice mechanic asks for, it is more reachable than a full clear — which means it is probably not a secret password. It is more likely a behaviour: staying calm, answering, and not running.
Three directions worth trying, and why each one is a guess
The following are inferences from badge conditions and the game's premise, not quotes from the developer. Treat them as hypotheses with a test attached.
One: answer the question. Spared — caught on your last life, talk back, then go where it tells you — has 32,807 awards. The badge text describes a sequence: caught, talk back, comply. That is the closest thing to a documented script in the game.
Two: do not run. Every other mechanic rewards movement. Voice cannot: a player sprinting away is not producing a response. Standing still and speaking is the only behaviour that separates a voice attempt from a failed escape.
Three: talk before contact. The description pairs hearing with release, not with mercy afterwards. The interaction most likely starts at range, which is also the only window where you still have a choice.
Each has a test: try it, watch whether the badge fires, adjust. None requires a pass, a level or a purchase.
What voice chat is not
- It is not a chat-filter bypass. Roblox voice needs the platform's own age and verification setup; without it the mechanic is simply unavailable.
- It is not required. 1,339,348 players clocked in and 80,777 escaped, so a large share finish runs without ever getting a voice release.
- It is not safe. Everything you say is heard by the game, and being heard is the premise.
The audio half of the mechanic
Voice chat is the interactive half of a design that runs on sound throughout. The description's final instruction is "Play with headphones." That is a developer telling you the audio mix carries information you cannot get from the screen:
- If you hear singing, the description says not to leave the room. The birthday song is a positional warning.
- The band performs on the cameras, so the security feed has an audio channel as well as a visual one.
- The Puppet at the security desk is the game's hint system, and hints in a game built on sound are likely to arrive as sound.
A player with speakers hears the song. A player with headphones hears which room it is coming from.
What the four voice-adjacent badges imply
Four badges touch sound or speech, and read together they sketch the mechanic's boundaries.
| Badge | Awards | What it implies about voice |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Tongue | 90,070 | Speaking to an animatronic can end an encounter |
| Spared | 32,807 | Talking back on your last life is a valid move |
| Don't Leave | 45,600 | The birthday song is a verbal cue with a rule attached |
| A Little Advice | 364,719 | The Puppet gives hints, and hints in a sound-led game arrive as sound |
Spared changes how you think about the microphone. Its condition — caught on your last life, talk back, then go where it tells you — is a conversation with a threat that has already won. Silver Tongue at 90,070 is the opposite: an interaction before contact. The two are nearly three times apart in frequency, so the earlier you speak, the better it works.
The two settings that decide whether the mechanic exists for you
Voice on Roblox is not a toggle inside the game. It depends on account-level verification and device support, which means two players in the same party can have different tool sets.
- Verified account plus a working microphone: the full mechanic, Silver Tongue included.
- No voice: the game runs, the badge does not, and the other 26 badges are unaffected.
If the microphone does not work, treat it as a 26-badge game and read the survival basics instead. Those four options need no hardware.
If you have no microphone
The mechanic is closed to you and the rest of the game is not. Silver Tongue at 11.1 percent means roughly nine in ten players are finishing runs without it. The badge you cannot get is one of 27; the other 26 include every level badge, every room badge and the escape itself.
For the rest of the survival kit, see closets, vents and doors, which covers the four defensive options that do not need a microphone.
